Interview transcription:
In an interview, Alex Shortt speaks about his own eyes and if he has had laser treatment or considers it in the future
Interviewer: Have you had laser eye surgery, Dr. Shortt?
Alex Shortt: I’m very lucky that I’ve never needed glasses or contact lenses.
But, I’m 42 now, and I’ve got the very first signs of that process known as presbyopia. After age 40-45, we notice that our reading vision starts to get worse and that we need to hold things further away to see them.
I’m going to be fine for another three, four years, maybe five years, but then I’m going to do what I know several refractive surgeons, colleagues of mine have had done themselves. I’m going to have a treatment called Presbyond LASIK. It’s a new type of third-generation laser eye surgery that corrects both the distance vision, but also the reading vision. And, certainly from me, for my requirement, that’s going to be the treatment for me at this stage.
